Experimental and Numerical Study on the Elimination of Severe Slugging by Riser Outlet Choking

Severe slugging is an unstable multiphase flow pattern occurs in a pipeline riser with low gas and liquid flowrates. It highly undesired practical operation because of the pressure mass oscillations induced. Riser outlet choking has shown effectiveness eliminating or reducing severity slugging. This work presents experimental numerical study on elimination severe riser-induced slug by means choking. The test loop consists horizontal 50 mm i.d. 15 m length, followed downward inclined section vertical 2 m. was found that at outlet, changes from first into then bubbly flow. recognition regimes basically according to trends base pressure. patterns were characterized terms base, as well holdup top.
